Got an idea for an exhibit? We would love to hear it!
Artlink's Artist Panel will plan another exhibit schedule in the coming months. Many times people share ideas with the staff at opening receptions and we thought maybe there could be a better way of doing this. So.... Artlink wants to know what exhibit ideas do you have? Yes, yes we know everyone wants a one person show but remember we are a non-profit attempting to show as many artists as possible so be creative and have some fun! The Artist Panel will be listening.

Since we can't get our government, local or federal, to work together maybe the arts community should show them how it is done. A 'collaborations' exhibit, were each entry was created by a group, would be an interesting exhibit.
I think that the creation of an "Artlink Alumni" group with a corresponding exhibition would be interesting, to bring back artists who have moved away, but were members of Artlink in their time in Fort Wayne.
In many cases like Kat Rohrbacher, Nathan Abels, Jason Stopa, or David Carpenter, they still have strong connections with people living here. It also helps them develop as artist by giving them places outside of their immediate area to exhibit work.
I like both ideas so far. My idea is for an "Off the Wall" exhibit to exclusively feature 3-d art which is so often neglected. Sculptural, wearable, painted furniture, installation art--anything not hanging on a wall. I know SPACE is always the excuse not to do this, but perhaps we could find someone to donate the use of one of the many downtown empty spaces to use for a one-time exhibit.
I like Dan's "Alumni Exhibit" idea, it reminds me of the space we had on Broadway (site of the old food co-op). It wasn't as slick and corporate-friendly as the space we now have, but it had a large interior space and smaller ante-room (ideal for collaborative installations and intimacy). A lot of those original members were alumni of the old Fort Wayne Art School, which would also be another exhibit idea, since we have featured IPFW and ST. Francis before.
I like all the ideas so far. It makes me which there were more than 8 exhibits a year! Keep them coming everyone, we are listening! Some of those artists mentioned for the "Alumni" show are still members even though they live miles away.
I too think an Alumni show is a great idea. What about "book arts"? I've seen some of these and they are VERY imaginative and creative.
How about an endangered species show? Nobody says it has to be just animals . . . .
It's time to hear from the advertising community about some show ideas. I know a lot of designers who are also talented artists. Also, now that non-traditional advertising is a part of our everyday thinking, there must be an art venue that can be turned into an interesting exhibit here. Lets think, think.... 2D and 3D work with type and letters? Green product design, illustrative art, or viral video? Or, how about solid ink on paper? Come on, shoot us a couple of ideas!
Thanks, Andy

Ok, here's an exhibit idea: Something based on 'Eyewear'. It could be called 4 eye's, or 4 iiii's, or 'The EYEs Have It!' (This last one wouldn't necessarily have to be about eyewear.) Everyone coming to the opening would be encouraged to wear a regular pair or a funky pair of eye glasses - could be fun!
I like the collaboration idea. That would bring together artists and have a greater impact on art in Fort Wayne beyond just the show.
Idea: Impressionistic Fort Wayne..with an emphasis on the buildings of course but also with people. Similar to the paintings in the book "Impressionistic New York" by William H. Gerdts. We even have horse drawn carriages like they had in the mid 1800s, early 1900s.
OK. As a prolific artist, I find I have a body of work that is gaining weight, if you know what I mean. Once a year, I have a "clean out your studio" show at home. Nothing over $100, and I do clean out! I am selective as to what I put in the show, but if it hasn't sold in 2-3 years, then, I have to look at that. People are dlighted! I am trying to put on a similar show involving several artists.
